Halloween on TV

Tomorrow is officially October! Yes, that means that I get to bust out all of my Halloween decorations and rediscover last year's clearance items that I forgot about - one of the best feelings!

Not only does Halloween mark the down hill race to Christmas, but is also surrounded by non-other than.....great television! I love all of those family-friendly, corny Halloween shows! I cannot wait. I basically watch ABC Family and Disney for a month straight. Every year, I type up a Halloween TV Schedule - not that my life revolves around television. I then put one schedule on the fridge and one on the coffee table, near the remote of course! If I am ever up for a good fright or am just channel surfing, I know exactly where to go.

This year, I decided to share the wealth.....or rather, the schedule. :) I added more than just the usual 'kiddy' movies this year. That way, I can include some of my husband's or our visitor's interest -or better yet, yours! You will find a list below. You will also find the cute versions that I made, below; you may decide to hang it on your fridge!

You'll notice that I only have up until the 13th of October. Well, Disney and ABC Family have not yet confirmed their schedules; so, there will be more to come. This will get you started! Also, please pay special attention to the colors on the schedule. If you don't know about a movie, I recommend googling it first or reading about it on IMDB.com.

I cannot wait until Lucy is old enough to watch the family shows with me!

Enjoy!

Pregnancy Journaling

It seems that last week's post was pretty popular. Or, rather, it had a lot of 'Likes' and a few comments. Either way, since it went over so well, I thought I would share a few more entries that I wrote back before I had a belly. Enjoy - I know I like reading them. It seems like forever ago!

June 22, 2009 - Week 7, Day 1

Today was by far the worse day of morning sickness yet.

I woke up at 6:20 a.m. for work. I couldn't even shave my legs in the shower, I thought that I might throw up or pass out. I moved at the speed of sound! Everything was more challenging: getting dressed, fixing my hair, putting on makeup, and especially brushing my teeth. There is no faster way of triggering my gag reflexes than brushing my teeth! At one point I collapsed in the middle of the room and cried, I felt so bad. Heath helped make me feel better, emotionally of course; there was no stopping the morning sickness! Even the smell of toast was disgusting at this point.

I somehow made it to work, 10 minutes late. For one and a half hours I stared at my computer monitor, in a daze. I finally choked down some oyester crackers and one ginger snap. Better? Not really. Relief didn't come until I finally threw back a few Dramamine at 10 a.m. Since it was Dramamine, you can imagine what happened next. I left at 2 p.m. from work because I thought I might fall asleep sitting up! Heath drove me home, where I fell asleep for the next 4 hours. I woke up enough to eat supper and watch Secret Life of the American Teenager and Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Then, I went back to sleep.

June 23, 2009 - Week 7, Day 2

This morning went a little better. I told Heath on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst, I felt like a 7.

It is better than yesterday. Yesterday was almost unbearable! I still didn't eat any breakfast, not that Heath offered though. I tried to eat crackers before getting out of bed, but could only choke down one. I somehow got down two ginger snaps though. Maybe it helped; who knows? Everything is still quite dazy. I still move at the speed of nothing.

I got to work, on time, or 3 mins late (close enough). I still look horrible, but that is to be expected I guess. Our building's air conditioning went out, yay! So, now I was hot and nauseated. It was a good time to drink my water for the day. It is supposed to get up to 100 degrees, or close to it, today. They better get the a.c. fixed!

I also heard that a girl I went to high school with named her son 'William'. We were thinking that was going to be our #1 boy's name. It sure does bum me out. We'll see; we may not use it now. She lives in another county and I don't really see her much anymore. It still bothers me though.

June 25, 2009 - Week 7, Day 4

Yesterday was much better. I felt alright throughout the day and felt a little more sick in the morning. I took a ginger pill and it seemed to calm my stomach. I am also wearing sea-bands on my wrists. I don't know if it is working or not, but it was worth a try! Since I have been wearing them, I haven't felt AS bad.

Yesterday afternoon I started to get a little queasy, but mostly tired. I have already planned a nap for today, right when I get home. I feel exhausted!

I also wanted to mention the acne that I have been getting! It is like I am 16 again. I hope this too will pass.......

Ahhh, now I am starting to remember what the early stages of pregnancy were like. Oh, how easily it was all forgotten! I am glad that I journaled this stuff for Lucy though. I think she'll enjoy reading it all someday. For anyone who is planning on starting a family - I recommend doing this. Even if you only have the energy to write three sentences, you'll never regret it. :)

Letter to Lucy - 5 Days Before I Met Her

I was having a flashback today, looking around my cubicle, to a time when I was pregnant. Sometimes at lunch I would write a letter to Lucy. I thought it would be neat to share with her my thoughts about the days leading up to her arrival. So, here is one that I did on February 2, 2010 - just 5 days before I met her. :) Enjoy!

Today is your Grandpa’s 50th birthday. You measured, a couple of times, big enough to arrive today. I think Grandpa would even enjoy that! Just in case you can’t remember your Grandpa’s birthday (shame on you, if you can’t), it is February 2nd. I am still working at this point. I don’t have any time to spare at work or I would be at home sleeping right now. As you may or may not know at this point in your life, I love to sleep. Before you, I would sleep in every weekend until at least noon. It has even become a running joke in our family. After you get here, I am not sure how much sleep I will get or even want.

On another note, you are hiccuping right now. It happens when I eat sweets and that I did this morning. I ate a bowl of Kix, the usually breakfast, and couldn’t help my sweet-tooth. I ventured to the second floor vending machines to find peanut M&Ms. I was craving those in particular. So, I’ve had one bag this morning. The machine accidentally dropped two by the way. So, I was pretty excited. I plan to give the other bag to your dad; hopefully he won’t give me too much grief about buying them that way. Plus, it is a good karma bag of M&Ms; so, I feel like I should pass them on!

Well, I thought I would share some pop-culture items with you (just for the fun of it). I am listening to Owl City’s ‘Fireflies.’ It is a completely over-played, annoying song too. It is playing on Radio Disney. Yes, I am a few weeks away from 24 years old and I am listening to Radio Disney. I am a tad juvenile. But, hopefully, I never lose my love for Disney and ‘kiddy movies.’ We’ll have more fun that way in the future.

As for clothing, I am wearing a pair of black heels that I bought at Payless. They are backless and have a strap across the top of my foot. My puffy foot kind of bulges out of that open part, due to the water retention. So, I kind of fibbed, I’m not actually wearing them. They are kicked off under my desk. Mostly, because they hurt my feet.

I am wearing maternity dress pants, black with darker pin stripes. They are from Motherhood and don’t have the big belly band on the top. They have about a two-inch band that occasionally cuts into my belly. It is annoying, but they are one of only three pairs that I have and fit! So, beggars can’t be choosers. The hem on my left leg came undone too and I have no choice but to still wear them (at least every third day). So, I safety pinned it in two spots. The silver sparkles and is really noticeable. Being the genius that I am, I tried to color the silver portion with a black, permanent marker. It worked for about 2 seconds. It was a genius idea anyway. This would be a great time to learn how to sew....hmmm. I guess I figured people expect me to be put together with pins. They don’t or can’t expect much from an almost 40 week pregnant woman! They are lucky I even got out of the recliner this morning. Recliner? Yes, I will explain more later.

My shirt is the same one I wore to our Baby Shower. It is maroon, mid-sleeve, and definitely a maternity top. Again, it is from Motherhood; it is kind of low cut, which causes some cleavage to pop out every once in a while. Well, from up here, it looks that way. I am not sure if it is as bad as I think from the front. But, my breasts have grown so much; I can’t keep it from sliding down. I even have a black tank-top on underneath to catch any oops moments. Hopefully, it works and I won’t totally offend anyone.

I am still wearing my wedding ring and thumb rings. Don’t take that as my fingers aren’t totally swollen because they are. My thumb rings have made an indention in my hand, or rather my thumb. I don’t think the circulation is cut off quite yet. I am hoping I can make it to your arrival without having to remove them. My wedding ring has a little more to go and so I am confident that I won’t have to take it off. I haven’t since I put it on at the wedding, except for cleaning it.

Whew, that was a lot of clothing discussion. Sorry if I bored you too much. I sure wish you would come today. I am having a toss-up between you coming already today or waiting until tonight, so I can go out to eat with your Grandpa. We are going to ‘Burger Madness’ tonight. I just may get a burger too! Oh darn-it, Braxton-Hicks kick in again. I had them so bad last night. I told your dad that I thought my uterus was ‘flexed’ all night practically. Or, it was every time I woke up anyway. It is getting even more painful and the sleeping position that I found is becoming less and less comfortable. I think of it as a clear indication that you are supposed to be here, honey!

Speaking of sleeping, I mentioned a recliner. Which I repeatedly, accidently spell with a ‘y.’ Ugh! If you read my ‘Belly Book’ I filled out for you, then you would know that I have been sleeping in the recliner for the past four weeks. This Sunday will make it five weeks! It is hard to believe, but is 100% true. You can ask your dad. It is crazy even walking into the master bedroom these days. Especially to me; because, before I was in the recliner, I was on the couch in the living room. My hips kill me! Granted, our bed was a heck of a lot closer to the bathroom. I would toss and turn so much out of pain that I had to find some better support for my hips. The couch worked there for about a week and a half. Then, it too hurt my hips. Your dad insisted on the recliner so much that I finally gave in thinking, ‘how could it be any worse?’ I also argued because I felt bad; he wanted to sleep on the couch next to me, for company. It is really sweet that he sleeps in the den with me. But, that is the kind of husband, friend, and you will soon see, dad, that he is.

I keep catching myself day dreaming in between segments of this o’ so long…‘letter’? My cubical is busy. I am not a very ‘busy’ person in daily life; but, a cubical needs something. Otherwise, you are just looking at gray, carpet-like walls. They are almost entirely covered with photos of me and your dad, a calendar, work notes and fliers, and the usual office décor. I can’t wait to post your beautiful face all over my cubical! Before I was pregnant, I never quite understood that either. I mean, yes, I have a heart and get why people are proud of their families. But, I just always thought, ‘wow, that mom thinks her kids are just awesome.’ But now, I understand. I love you so much that I am going to put your cute face all over this joint!

The back pain is increasing now. I think it may be how I am sitting in my chair. I always try to make it out to be these external factors and not you. I don’t want to give my hopes up that you are coming any time soon; although, you could start coming at any minute. It is all very hard to describe, the feelings that is. I am excited, terrified, and impatient. I really want it to come quickly; I want you to be here already! But, I am scared of the labor and the pain. I am also scared for your health. I hope and pray that you are healthy and everything goes ‘swimmingly’ during the whole labor and delivery process.

Apparently I got side tracked, because that is all there is. Wasn't that a nice walk down memory lane? haha Thanks for stopping in.........to my thoughts. :)

Strike a Pose: Part II

The textbook that Lucy and I supposedly ‘modeled’ for came to life! If you are completely lost at this point, here is a refresher: Strike a Pose.

I can’t believe it! Lucy is only 7 months old and is already on the cover of a book! It’s kind of weird how things change when you become a mother. Two years ago I would have been so excited to have been on the cover – me – on the cover of a book! It would have been all about me, me, me.

Now, I don’t even care that I’m on the cover. I just keep thinking how neat it will be for Lucy some day. She will be able to take a copy to show and tell or have something neat to share when people ask.

The most interesting thing I can share about myself is: I met Mark Paul Gosselaar once and then 15 years later I met Dennis Haskins. That is Zack Morris and Mr. Belding from ‘Saved by the Bell’ for all of you amateurs. ;) I have quite a few cast members left to meet and I better pick up the pace a little too.

Anyway, Lucy can say, “I’ve been on the cover of a book.” Then, she can whip that baby out and show it off!

Since, as of now, her only interest in any book would be to eat it and/or tear the pages out, I’ll gloat for her.

Lucy, the Dog: Part II

I actually had a normal lunch today at work and was looking through the blogs I follow. I went to one, A Southern Accent, to see the newest cute designs. I am not one for give-a-ways or new deals; so, I skipped over the first entry fairly quickly. The next was about the blogger's new carpet and a picture of her living room.

I love looking at people's homes, so I immediately studied the photo. She has such a unique sense of style and awww, what a cute dog! Then I read the text.

Her dog.....it's name is Lucy.

Are you freaking kidding me?

DayCare Bullying

Again, last week I was reminded why I never wanted to be an elementary school teacher.

Heath had gone out to lunch with his co-workers; so, I went down to see Lucy by myself. I admit, it’s a bit awkward without Heath. He engages in small talk and plays with the other children. I will flash a smile or goofy face at some of them occasionally; but, I am just not very good with little kids – especially a lot of them.

Each of the daycare helpers had a baby in hand and all the little toddlers were running about. It was Friday; therefore, there weren’t that many children. They were able to all play together, instead of the usual baby-toddler separation. Lucy was in an ‘exersaucer’ just bouncing her little heart out. It was adorable (to say the least). Frankly, I was just pleased that she wasn’t on the floor, getting trampled by the “walkers.”

First, I picked her up out of the saucer and gave her squeezes and told her how much I loved and missed her. Then, I sat down with her in front of the mirror. She loves to look at herself and I get a thrill out of watching her giggle and smile – so, that’s where we landed. We laughed and played in our own little spot when another little girl came over. I am not sure how old the girl is; but, I would guess 2 or 2 ½. Honestly, she may be a little older; let’s just say, she is old enough to know better. She talks in full sentences, clear as day. She is coordinated and plays with dolls like she’s playing house. So, after further review, she is probably 3 or 3 ½. Anyway, you get the picture…

This particular girl, we’ll call her Mary, has always been on my radar. She has been spotted picking on the babies in the past – by me that is. The daycare personnel are constantly hollering her name, “Mary, no. Maa-rry, no. Don’t do that!”

This summer, when there were fewer children, I used to watch her. She’d push the swings too fast, with babies in them. She’d throw blankets on their faces or take away their toys. I even alert one of the daycare providers to break up a ‘situation’ one day, where Mary was hitting another, younger toddler repeatedly on the head with a toy. It was sad to even watch. The other toddler was defenseless.

Other times, it seemed like Mary was trying to play house with the babies, but was just too rough. Regardless, I didn’t want her around Lucy.

Mary was a bully! Take that back, Mary is a bully.

So, on this particular day, sitting with Lucy, minding our own business, I was not amused with Mary.

She came over and kept throwing all the toys off the shelf – even the ones Lucy was playing with. I kept giving her this look, like, “go away, we are playing here.” After reflection, it’s obvious she is too young to pick-up on my snide looks. Oh well, it made me feel better. I stayed calm. I wanted to tell her to knock it off and that Lucy was playing with those toys first. However, that’s not my job and Mary’s not my child. It went unnoticed by everyone else - oddly enough too; she was making a lot of noise.

I abandoned the mirror and shelf toys. I took Lucy back over to the exersaucer. While Lucy bounced I showed her the different toys, surrounding it. Then, there she was – Mary. She started playing with the toys that Lucy was playing with – the ones connected to the saucer that Lucy was in!

Is it horrible of me to not like a little kid?

It’s the parents. She wants attention. It doesn’t happen when I’m gone. Lucy didn’t care. There was no harm done. These are all things I keep repeating to myself. But, seriously, Mary looks at me and my first thought is – troublemaker! I am surrounded by complete and utter annoyance.

Dramatic overreaction – got it!

It just makes me realize that Lucy is going to get picked on and I won’t be there to protect her. Mary is the first of probably several. I hate it. I want to protect her, especially now, since she can’t even comprehend the whole ‘sharing’ idea or stick up for herself and tell Mary to get lost.

Have you ever experienced this? How should I react when I am witnessing this behavior? I feel like a jerk telling daycare, “Mary keeps taking Lucy’s toys away.” What am I? Four?

Help! I have a daycare bully!
