Important Things

The room was quiet. The only sound was Lucy's tennis shoes tapping the wood floor. She raised her eyebrows to me as she clamped down onto the plastic fork. Chili and cheese smeared over her lips as she dramatically started chewing. She then began to raised her head up and then lower it with each chew. It didn't take long before the movement made it to her little, pink converses, and she began dancing.

I sat on the floor next to her, leaning up against the kitchen cabinets. I listened to her off-beat humming and the clap of her flat, rubber soles hitting the wood planks.

I, too, had a mouth full of chili-cheese tater tots from Sonic. Without thinking, I began to sway my head back and forth to Lucy's beat.

In that moment I realized how thankful I was. I realized how much I take things for granted. I realized how blessed I was. It was perfect.

How is it that work will break you down, you feel tired and sore, you get irritated with trying to unload Lucy and the million bags and things you've accumulated from the car, the house is such a mess you want to pull your hair out, the humidity outside makes you yearn for just one cool breeze, and then,...a moment like this happens...and it all just fades away?

I love moments like that. You can't plan them. They just happen. Life is good.

Heath - yes. Lucy and I got a chili-cheese tots from Sonic Monday night. They were good. :)
